10 ideas for autumn activities with children in the fresh air
Autumn is a wonderful time of year to spend lots of time outdoors with children. Nature is changing almost daily, and being outside is so much fun for kids. The fact that it's getting cooler is completely irrelevant. What's most important is warmth from within, which comes from plenty of exercise or a never-ending supply of hot tea.

10 ideas for autumn activities with children in the fresh air
With the following ideas, you can make every afternoon outdoors an exciting experience with your children this autumn:
-
Start a leaf fight! Building a pile of leaves and jumping around in it is a popular autumn activity for every family. But have you ever had a real leaf fight? It works just like a snowball fight, only with leaves. It's as much fun as it sounds.
-
Mushroom hunting. You don't need to be a mushroom expert to go mushroom hunting with your children in autumn. Just go looking for the biggest, the crookedest, the fattest, or the funniest mushroom.
-
Collecting trash. It might sound strange at first, but unfortunately, trash is everywhere in nature. Children love having a meaningful task, and collecting trash is one of them. Egon Eichhorn explains to children aged four and up in his beautifully illustrated book , "Egon and the Wild Trash in the Forest," why it's especially important to keep trash out of the woods before winter.

Our tip: Pack a pair of barbecue tongs and a reusable trash bag for collecting the garbage. With the tongs, your children don't have to touch the trash, and you can reuse the bag again and again .
-
Flying kites. With the first autumn wind that stirs up the colorful leaves comes the desire to fly kites.
-
Collect table decorations. In autumn, you can find all sorts of treasures in the forest, especially chestnuts. These are perfect for crafting, of course, but also for creating beautiful table decorations. It's fun and requires no effort.
-
Have a picnic outdoors. A picnic in autumn? Of course it's possible, and the idea that children will sit quietly on the picnic blanket for a long time is just wishful thinking on our part as parents. With a tasty snack and a warm cup of tea, you'll be fueled for your further autumn adventures.
-
Decorating pumpkins. Many farms set up small stands by the roadside in autumn where you can buy pumpkins in different colors and sizes. At home, you can decorate them and turn them into funny or spooky heads. My children, understandably, didn't want to part with their beloved alpaca hats , and I was only allowed to borrow them for the photo.

-
Collect food for squirrels. Gather hazelnuts, walnuts, acorns, or beechnuts together, which you can then distribute again in winter when snow and frost cover the ground. Squirrels in the city, in particular, will thank you, as their food supply is scarce.

-
Lantern walks. Lantern walks and spending autumn outdoors with children – these two things inextricably belong together. Especially when it gets dark early, a glowing lantern is motivation enough to leave the warm house one last time.
- Jumping in puddles. Of course, you can jump in puddles at any time of year. But especially on gray and damp autumn days, a game of puddle jumping can really lift your spirits. And back home, you can cozy up with a round of Memory from the "In the Natural Garden" category and indulge in some summer memories.
Autumn is a wonderful time of year to spend lots of time outdoors with children. Make the most of both the beautiful and less beautiful days in the fresh air. It will do you all good as a family.
