Easter crafts - DIY flower stones to make with children for Easter
It's springtime and the forests and meadows are awakening from their winter slumber. The sun is shining and we can finally explore the woods and mountains with our children, eat ice cream in the sun and spend lots of time outdoors.
If the weather doesn't cooperate, we have a brilliant and easy DIY tutorial for crafting with dried flowers (or flowers you've collected yourself). Whether you want to decorate vases, stones, or eggs, crafting with dried flowers is incredibly easy, and the result is wonderful artwork and decorations that are also perfect for giving as gifts.
Easter crafts with children - Before crafting, a collection is gathered.
But before the crafting fun begins, it's time to collect. Grab a cardboard box or a container, and of course your children, and head out into nature to collect small flowers or grasses together.
Please note that many of the so-called early bloomers, which are particularly prevalent now before Easter, are threatened with extinction and are protected by law. These plants must not be picked or dug up.
Flowers you can pick without hesitation include daisies, dandelions, and wild garlic leaves. These also look very pretty on a glass. Perhaps you even have some dried leaves from last autumn at home? Once you've finished collecting, the flowers need to be pressed.
Otherwise, we recommend using dried flowers for Easter crafts.
Besides flowers, you'll also need stones for your DIY flower stones. Smooth, round, and flat stones are best. You can usually find these near rivers and lakes.
Easter crafts with children - pressing flowers, here's how
Pressing flowers is very easy:
- Place two sheets of paper in the middle of a thick book and put a fresh flower between them.
- Use additional books or a brick to weigh the book down further.
- Change the paper every few days until the flowers are completely dry. This takes about one to two weeks.
Everything you need for your flower DIY project
Dried flowers - pick the flowers and press them yourself, or alternatively buy ready-pressed flowers.
Round stones – whether white, black, or grey: it's up to you which stones you use. I simply gathered some from the garden.
Mod Podge - Mod Podge is a water-based sealer, adhesive, and finish in one. You can buy the adhesive at a craft store.
Brush or sponge applicator - I used a very ordinary, flat paintbrush.
Instructions - DIY Easter flower stones to make with children
Once you have gathered everything for your DIY flower stones, decorating the stones is very quick.
- Which flowers go on which stone? Think about how you want to decorate the stones and get the dried flowers ready. Be very careful, as dried flowers break easily.
- Start by applying Mod Podge to the first stone. Since the adhesive dries quickly, only paint the area you want to cover first.
- Is the Mod Podge applied? Then carefully pick up the first dried flower and stick it to the stone. Since the flowers are so delicate, I picked them up directly with the sticky brush.
- Once you have arranged your flowers on the stone, apply a second layer of Mod Podge to your artwork.
You're probably wondering why the glue is so white? Let it dry for a while. Once the Mod Podge is dry, it will lose its color and become transparent. Now the dried flowers will truly shine in all their glory.
Decorated with a beautiful saying on the back, the flower stones are a perfect little gift for friends and relatives.
